Going through some old papers of mine, I came across notes I took on a telephone conversation a few years ago. The person I was speaking to had just been to see a doctor, and the doctor, in turn, had recently been present when his elderly father passed away after an illness.
Clearly, this is not a first-hand account, but I have no reason to doubt its essential accuracy.
According to the doctor, in his last moments his father became visibly happy. He pointed at a point in space and declared that "two men with white light around them" were "coming toward" him. "Right over there," he said, though of course his son (the doctor) could see nothing. His demeanor was one of complete peace; immediately after making this statement, he simply put his head down on the pillow and died.
The doctor himself was reportedly very pleased with this deathbed vision, which he found meaningful and comforting. Since he had no special relationship with the patient I was speaking to, I have to assume he shared his story widely with many patients and probably friends and relatives, as well.
