In comments, Marty provided a link to an inspiring story in the Seattle Times.
The story is inspirational on three levels. First, it's a story of heroism – an ordinary man risks his life to pull a stranger's child from a burning car.
Second, it's a story of life continuing after death – the child's father, who died of his injuries, makes an apparitional appearance to the rescuer.
Finally, it's a story of forgiveness – the father asks the rescuer to pass on the message that the driver who caused the accident should not be hated for what he did.
The story is so powerful that it largely silenced the usual chorus of cynical "realists" whose chief delight in life is crying "woo-woo." None of the comments I've read on the Seattle Times website were dismissive.
Commenter j9 provided a link to a newscast of the story and to a nice opinion piece about it.
